While on Off The Wall (1979) Jackson worked with jazz influenced guitarists Larry Carlton and Phil Upchurch, he later also collaborated with rock guitarists such as Eddie Van Halen, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and Slash (Guns N’ Roses).
